Server Migration Status: all sites appear to be functional

I have not had time to do a complete, website by website audit (we have over 500 physically hosted sites on the server), however, I think everything is a-ok right now. If your site is not a-ok, please contact me directly with the specifics. The more precise you can be, the faster I can repair any damage. We have not had a server migration in over 4 years, and hopefully we won't again for quite some time. The reason for the migration is that I need a more hands-on Systems Administrator (Sys Admin) because of the increasing security concerns on the Internet. Dedicated servers like ours are "targets" and need more attention in the last couple of years than ever before.

I wish I could thank every one of you personally for your years of loyalty and support. It is more appreciated than you may know.

Server Migration Status: a few sites I am fixing...

A few A records on the server that should be pointing to custom Posterous sites are not... I am fixing them now. This applies to K Black, D Clark, H Fox, T McCarthy, D Enger, M Bailey, K Engelke, B Shanahan, L Wilridge and possibly a few more. I will get your new, upgraded sites back up asap guys. Thanks for your patience; this is some of the normal rough spots when changing servers. We have not changed in 4 years... not something we want to do often. :)

Server Status: DNS change has caused a few issues

We have been alerted that a few sites are displaying "old" versions of their page. I will be working with our sys admin to determine if this caused by the migration, or if it is something else. We will update as we investigate. If this affected you, please email Marj at support at mlhi.net and let her know so we can add examples to our "problem" list (which fortunately is small).

Server Status: Custom A Records

If you are one of the few clients who host your own DNS, and have a custom A record pointed to our server, that record will be changing soon. Please contact Ken and request the new A record. This does not apply to the majority of our customers, so if you don't know what I'm talking about... it most likely does not apply to you.... and disregard this message. :)

Server is up. Some sites need special attention.

We completed step one in a server migration last night. In doing so, some (less than a dozen) sites are not resolving properly. We are working in them right now and will keep you posted.

Server maintenance at 11pm CST, Wednesday Feb 23

Our server will be down for 2 to 3 hours for needed maintenance on Wednesday, February 23, 2011, at 11pm CST. It should be back up within three hours. Thank you for your understanding.

Server is back online and running well

Everything has been checked out and no initial cause for the server going down was determined. I will be contacting HostNexus tomorrow and asking if they think we should replace the hard drive, though they say that's not the problem. If we do a planned hard drive replacement it would be done overnight and/or on a weekend and we would notify everyone here first.

Server is down... again... we are working on it.

Twice in two days... I think we may need a hard drive replacement. Apologies. And I have put in an emergency ticket. Will keep you all posted.

Server Is Back Online

Thanks to the excellent folks at HostNexus.com. They have outstanding customer service. The tech details: they did a repair to the hard drive files that should take care of everything, but they will monitor it closely for 4 more hours to make sure. If there are any additional performance issues, they will replace the entire hard drive overnight. I asked that they would do that after 8pm cst. I would advise everyone of the planned downtime if that is necessary.
